Chapter 7

Bob was not a happy cat when I entered my RV later that night. Tor and I had an amazing dinner and I managed not to make a fool of myself, even getting in some intelligent small talk—or so I hoped. He didn’t seem overly put off by my personality or lack of social graces, even hinting we might want to do this again in the near future.

Yeah. That shocked me down to my peach-painted toenails.

“I’m so sorry, Bob. Please, stop! Don’t look at me like that! Look, I brought you a doggy bag!”

That was probably the wrong thing to say to my cat.

“What I meant is, I brought you some tasty fish and a bit of my cheesecake.”

I continued being the dork and had ordered an ahi tuna salad, not wanting Tor to witness my overly-healthy appetite. He, on the other hand, chowed down on hickory-smoked prime rib, a baked potato, shrimp, Tennessee corn pudding, and a big honking piece of freshly baked bread. When he detected the drool being concealed behind my tight-lipped smile—my eyes giving me away as they bugged out at his plate, Tor cut of a piece and fed me a bite off his fork. It was incredible.

So was the meat.

That little nibble led to another bite then a sample of his potato, and he insisted I try the corn pudding and bread as well. By the time dessert rolled around, Tor had taken it upon himself to order a large slice of cheesecake and two forks.

I was hoping it would remain just one fork. We attacked the cheesecake, and I blushed when we both went for the large strawberry on top at the same time.

When that weird Lady and Tramp moment passed, we finished our treat, downed our coffee, and split the bill...unequally since my salad didn’t even break a twenty.

“Here, buddy. Eat that up. I will get you a can of your favorite food as well.”

Guilt made me overindulge my rotund furball who took complete advantage of my mood to chow down with abandon.

“And where were you? Did I just see you get out of Tor’s car looking all giggly and dazed? Were you two on a date or something?” Ellie questioned, startling me out of my shoes in the process. I chucked a sneaker over to where she was concealed in the darkness on her favorite chair, and she smirked when it went through her and hit the wall.

“Or something,” was all I said in reply.

“Oh, no you don’t. Spill it, or I will call Bella and she will make you squeal like a stuck piggy.”

“I was hunting a certain dark witch who managed to give us the slip. Tor generously provided the wheels. When Nathara disappeared down by the Tennessee River, we decided to grab a bite. It’s nothing to make a big deal out of!”

“You went on a date!”

“No, it wasn’t! Didn’t you hear what I just said?”

“Did he pay? What did you eat? Oh my gosh please tell
